Motorcycle vs. Car

June 6th, 2008

At 0722, Co. 29, York Medic 46, and Conewago Township Police were alerted in Box 29-2 in Conewago Township to the area of Narrow Dr. & Lover's Dr. for motorcycle accident with injuries. Chief 29 & Deputy 29 responded with the ambulance, rescue, engine/tanker, and engine following not long after. Units arrived to find a car vs. a motorcycle with a single patient lying in the roadway. The box was reduced to Rescue 29, 29A, Medic 46, and Fire Police. The rescue crew assisted with patient packaging and controlled hazards before going available at 0746. 29A transported Priority 2 to York Trauma Center with Medic 46 since helicopters were down due to weather.

Early morning MVA

May 20th, 2008

At 0018 a motor vehicle accident assignment was toned out in Box 29-1 in Conewago Township to the intersection of Elm Ave. and Washington Ave. Deputy 29 responding with Rescue 29, Engine 29, Tanker 29, and 29A following a short time later. Deputy 29 arrived a short time later and requested 29A-1, which responded within minutes. Units arrived on scene with Conewago Township and McSherrystown Borough Police Departments to find a two vehicle rear-end collision with all occupants out of the vehicle and two Priority 3 patients. Crews assisted with patient care, lighting, secured the batteries, and controlled hazards. The box was reduced to Rescue 29, Service 29, and Fire Police while awaiting for the tow truck. All units went available at 0058.

Scooter Crash

May 14th, 2008

At 1731, Co. 29 units and York County Medic 46 were alerted in Box 29-1 in Conewago Townships to the intersection of Third St. and Jefferson Ave. for an accident involving a motorcycle. Rescue 29, Engine/Tanker 29, and 29A responded within minutes and arrived to find a scooter in the roadway with one Priority 3 patient. The box was reduced to Rescue 29, 29A, Service 29, and Fire Police. Units assisted with patient packaging and hazard control. The box was placed in service at 1746.

Accident filled day

May 6th, 2008

 

At 0310 hours Co. 29 units and Medic 46 were alerted in Box 29 in McSherrystown Borough to the 200 Block of South Third St. for an MVA with vehicle into a pole and on fire. Deputy 29 and Assistant 29 responded with Engine 29, Rescue 29, Engine/Tanker 29, and 29A following shortly after. Units arrived to find a single vehicle on its roof with no fire and two poles sheared off. The occupant was out of the vehicle and crews began to assist with packaging the patient, lighting, and hazard control. 29A transported to a local hospital. The box was reduced to Engine 29 and fire police to await the arrival of Met-Ed. After Met-Ed arrived Engine 29 went available at 0525 hours. Fire police remained until Met-Ed closed the roadway.

At 2058 hours a motor vehicle accident box was dispatched in Box 29-1 in Conewago Township on Racehorse Rd. Chief 29 responded with Rescue 29, Engine 29, Engine/Tanker 29, and 29A following shortly after. Units arrived to find one vehicle overturned and through a fence. Engine 29 was placed in service upon arrival on scene while Fire Police closed down the roadway. 29A transported to a local hospital and units returned available at 2135 hours.


Brush goes to G-burg

April 18th, 2008

At 1749 Brush 29 was dispatched as 2nd due brush in Box 1-9 to the 800 Block of Hanover Rd. to assist the Gettysburg Fire Dept. with a brush fire. Brush 29 responded with a crew of 4.  Upon arrival Brush 29 met up with Assistant 1 (Baldwin) and received orders to began overhauling part of the burnt woods. Crews utilized the tools and Indian tanks. Brush 29 was then relocated with Rescue 1 and Engine/Tanker 19 to began overhauling piles of logs that were on fire. The booster line was placed into service and a forestry line was hooked up to the  brush. Dry conditions hampered the efforts to extinguish the fire. Numerous units operated at the incident from both Adams and Carroll Counties. After all of this Brush 29 went available at 1943 and returned to the station.


Brush assists in 52 Box

March 25th, 2008

At 1438 Brush 29 was alerted in a York County 52 Box as an additional brush truck on a working field fire on Pleasant Hill Rd. Brush 29 responded within minutes with a crew of 5. Upon arrival on scene Brush 29 was advised to take the left flank and prevent further spread. High winds hampered early efforts to extinguish the fire. The booster line and brush bar were placed into service. Additional crew members assisted with raking fire lines and hotspots and then operated off of Brush 52. Units from Adams, Carroll, and York Counties operated at this incident. The field fire consumed about 14 to 15 acres of land. After filling the tank up, Brush 29 went available at 1544.

Chimney Fire

March 20, 2008

At 0708, Co. 29 and Engine 13 and 13A were dispatched in Box 29-6 in Mt. Pleasant Township to 1430 Storms Store Rd. for a chimney fire. Chief 29 and Assistant 29 went responding. Quint 29, Engine/Tanker 29, Tanker 29, Engine 29, Engine 13, 13A and 29A went responding within minutes. Units were advised that the homeowner thought that the fire was now out. Chief 29 arrived and advised no smoking and Rescue 29, Engine 13 and 13A were placed in service. Personnel investigated and found no extension and units began to clear. The box went available at 0743.

Trailer Fire at Utz's

March 11, 2008

At 1839 hours Co. 29 was dispatched in Box 29-1 to 101 Kindig Ln. at Utz's for a trailer fire. Chief 29 responded within 1 minute with Engine 29 and Engine/Tanker 29 not far behind, due to it being training night. Rescue 29, 29A-1, and Quint 29 followed a short time later. Units arrived on scene to find smoke showing from a trailer full of chips and chip bags. An 1" 3/4 line was pulled and started an attack and the hydrant was hit in front lawn of the facility. It was then decided to utilize the front deck gun on Engine/Tanker 29 to put the fire out. At 1915 hours the box went available and crews went back to the station for training.

Odor Investigation

February 19, 2008

A pre-alert was sounded at 2129 hours in Box 14-2 to 133 Reba Dr. for smoke in a structure. Engine 29 and Engine/Tanker 29 responded. Units arrived on scene and assisted with the thermal imager to attempt to find the source of the odor. It was found that a lamp overheated on the dresser. The box was reduced to Engine 14-1 and Truck 13. 29 Units returned available at 2152 hours.

Quint Run and MVA

February 10, 2008

The afternoon started off at 1525 hours when Quint 29 was requested in Box 20 in Littlestown Borough to 17 Park St. for a roof blown off a structure with possible collapse. Quint 29 and the Chief responded with 6 within 3 minutes. Quint 29 arrived and set-up on Side B. Crews went to the roof to assist with securing tin that was loose. High winds caused the roof to blow off and go overtop of a house across the street and landed on a shed. Quint 29 went available at 1615 hours.

Units operating: Engine 20-1, Rescue 20, Brush 20, 20A, Quint 29

With personnel from the Quint run still on station, Co. 29 was alerted at 16:36 hours in Box 29-2 in Conewago Township to the 2900 block of Hanover Pike for an auto accident with unknown injuries. Chief and Deputy 29 responded along with 29A and Rescue 29 within one minute. Engine 29 and Engine/Tanker 29 followed not long after. Units were advised that 2 people were seen running from the scene. Chief and Deputy arrived to find two-vehicles partially blocking the roadway and requested ALS. Units arrived and assisted 29A with patient packaging and removal. 29A transported Priority 3 to Hanover General Hospital and ALS was placed available.. Units provided fluid control and clean-up and were available by 16:55 hours. Co. 29 finished the day with 4 Fire/Rescue incidents and 4 EMS incidents.

Brush Fire Next to Structure

January 27, 2008

At 1604 hours units were dispatched in Box 29-4 in Mt. Pleasant Township to 2986 Centennial Rd. for a hay fire near a house. Brush 29,Rescue 29, and 29A responded within 2 minutes of dispatch. Chief 29 arrived on scene with a hay fire next to the structure and upgraded the box to a structure assignment, adding Quint 29, Engine 29, and Engine/Tanker 29. Tanker 29 responded shortly after this and Quint 29 followed. Units controlled the fire with minimal damage to the structure. The box was then reduced to Brush 29 and all units were available by 1655 hours.

Fatal on Filbert

January 15, 2008

At 1942 hours Co. 29 units and York County Medic 46 were alerted in Box 29-1 in Conewago Township to 255 South Lincoln Dr. for a vehicle accident with entrapment. 29A responded with Rescue 29 following within minutes of dispatch. Engine/Tanker 29 and Engine 29 responded not long after. Conewago Township Police Dept. arrived and advised Adams County Control that there was one patient still in the vehicle with no pulse. 29A arrived with Rescue 29 behind them to find a pick-up truck into a parked tractor-trailer, with a corrected address on Filbert St. just west of the South Lincoln Drive intersection and that the patient was not trapped in the vehicle.

The crew from Rescue 29 assisted 29A with removal of the patient who was a working code. 29A met Medic 46 while in route to Hanover General Hospital with the working trauma code. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the patient later died at the hospital. After clean-up the box was reduced to Rescue 29 to assist with lighting and fire police. The box went available at 1959 hours. Our condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
