Press Release - Mid March SAVES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN CLOSING IN ON GOAL The Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services—SAVES—announced Saturday at their annual membership dinner that their $1 million dollar capital campaign stands at $845,000. The campaign, which is part of the funding for SAVES new fire station and social hall began last September and continues through April of 2009. Construction on the new building, located on the south side of Rt.116 a quarter mile west of the Centennial Road intersection, began in November and is progressing as scheduled. The campaign, being conducted by SAVES membership, was bolstered recently when the organization learned it will receive a $250,000 grant from the Pa. Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant was sponsored by Representative Dan Moul. SAVES serves all of the Borough of McSherrystown and Conewago Township and portions of Mt. Pleasant and Union Townships.
Along with the grant, the success of the campaign is attributed to several strong pacesetter contributors from the business and residential community. The residential campaign which will wind down over the next month is going very well despite the poor economy according to Wayne Reid, SAVES President. “We are seeing quite a number of residential supporters making sizeable contributions as memorials to loved ones. The nice thing about our campaign is that residential supporters can contribute in various ways at an affordable level.” Residential patron in the SAVES service area are reminded that there is still time to make a contribution in the form of a memorial to a family member or loved one. Interested patrons are asked to contact SAVES at 637-9621.
In addition to the residential component of the campaign, SAVES members have been calling on the business community over the past several months. Members have been meeting personally with the 200 businesses in the service area. SAVES is asking businesses to consider a cash or in kind contribution. According to SAVES Project Coordinator, Tom Weaver, a number of local businesses have agreed to sizeable in kind contributions to the project. “The response from our business community thus far has been great. Companies like the McSherrystown Home Association, Hanover Architectural Products, Vulcan Materials, Hanover Lantern and others have embraced this project with much enthusiasm. With more than six weeks to go in the campaign, we are confident that we will reach our goal”, Weaver said.
The new 31,000 square foot facility features ten apparatus bays, personnel bunk rooms, a 600 seat social hall and an archive room (museum) to preserve the history of the four companies that consolidated to create SAVES in 2004.
