Press Release - Mid November

SAVES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PASSES HALFWAY MARK

The Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services—SAVES—announced today that their $1million dollar capital campaign stands at $505,000.  The campaign which is part of the funding for SAVES new fire station and social hall began six weeks ago and will run through March of 2009.  Construction on the new building, located on the south side of Rt.116 a quarter mile west of the Centennial Road intersection, began earlier this month.  The campaign, being conducted by SAVES membership, is currently focused on soliciting contributions from residential and business patrons served by SAVES.  Letters and information packets were recently mailed to residences and businesses in the SAVES service area.   Patrons in the SAVES service area that did not receive a letter are asked to contact SAVES at 637-9621.  SAVES serves all of the Borough of McSherrystown and Conewago Township and portions of Mt. Pleasant and Union Townships.

The early success of the campaign is attributed to several strong pacesetter contributors from the business and residential community.  The residential campaign which is now in full swing is going very well according to Wayne Reid, SAVES President.  “We are seeing quite a number of residential supporters making sizeable contributions as memorials to loved ones. The nice thing about our campaign is that residential supporters can contribute in various ways at an affordable level.  With the upcoming holiday season, a memorial contribution or even just a contribution to the community through this project is a great way to give a gift” Reid said. SAVES residential goal is to receive a $100 contribution from each of its 4400 residences.

In addition to the residential component of the campaign, SAVES members will be calling on the business community over the next several months.  Members hope to meet personally with the 200 businesses in the service area.  SAVES is asking businesses to consider a cash or in kind contribution.  According to SAVES Project Coordinator, Tom Weaver, a number of local businesses have agreed to sizeable in kind contributions to the project.  “The response from our business community thus far has been great.  Companies like Vulcan Materials, Hanover Lantern and others have embraced this project with much enthusiasm.  We hope to see this enthusiasm as we visit more of our business community.  With more than four months to go in the campaign, we are confident that we will reach our goal”, Weaver said.
